Every year, RCOE The Arts offers teacher training in specific arts disciplines. These are hosted by college level educators and/or experts in the field. Each year the schedule and flyers for professional development events can be found on our main Arts page. You can find recordings of the professional developments that were done virtually, by visiting our Podcast and Video page.
The California Arts Standards were adopted in January 2019. RCOE The Arts has taken all of the standards in the five disciplines and reformatted them to make them user-friendly for teachers.
The documents present the Arts Standards in a concise, usable format and can be used for planning and assessment activities.
In 2020, the State Board of Education adopted the Arts Framework. The Arts Framework supports the CA Arts Standards. Louisa Higgins, Arts Administrator and Peggy Burt, Arts Consultant studied the following chapters to make a three-hour, experiential training. This has been presented live and via zoom. Now, the taped webinar is available here, along with the handouts we used. This version is two hours, and we invite you to view it, and engage in learning more about the Arts Framework in a way that is convenient to your schedule.

To make the arts more accessible to elementary school multiple subject teachers, RCOE The Arts has formatted the arts standards just for elementary. You can look them up either by grade level (PreK–6) or by art form (dance, media arts, music, theatre, and visual arts). This makes it much easier to plan lessons whether you are teaching the art form itself, enhancing a lesson via the arts, integrating more than one art form, or integrating the arts with another content area.
