Migrant Education Program

The Migrant Education Program is a federally funded initiative established under the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. Its purpose is to provide supplemental education and support services to identified migrant students.

The Migrant Education Program is administered by the Riverside County Office of Education and serves students across Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. This regional program works in partnership with school districts and community organizations to enhance educational opportunities and outcomes for migrant students.

Region VII supports participating districts by helping implement supplemental services for eligible migrant students and their families. The region also offers leadership, professional development for educators, instructional and fiscal program support, technical assistance, and facilitates the identification and recruitment of migrant students within the districts it serves.

We believe that parents play a vital role in their child's education, and your involvement is welcomed and encouraged in the Migrant Education Program!

There are many ways for families to participate in Region VII's Migrant Education activities, including:

  • Regional Parent Advisory Committee (RPAC)
  • State Parent Advisory Council (SPAC)
  • Family Literacy Programs
  • Annual Regional Health Conference
  • Parent Leadership Opportunities
  • Parent Development Workshops

History of Migrant Education

The Migrant Education Program was established by the United States Department of Education in 1966. The program is part of Title I Part C of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965 and most recently reauthorized by the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) of 2001.

The Migrant Education Program was established to meet the unique educational and social needs of migratory children between the ages of 3 to 22 years old. The program celebrates and exercises its legacy of civil rights by ensuring equal access to a high quality education for all migrant children.

Migrant Education Region 7, Riverside County Office of Education, is one of 24 migrant regions in the state of California.
