Mental Health Student Services Act (MHSSA) $562,247.00

In collaboration with Riverside University Health System Behavioral Health (RUHS-BH), Hemet Unified School District, and Riverside Unified School District, RCOE was awarded the MHSSA grant.

Through these funds, the Transforming Our Partnerships for Student Success (TOPSS) team was designed to increase support, resources, and services, for high school students in areas such as mental health, physical health, emotional health, nutrition, and lifestyle choices through the results of the RUHS-BH Whole Person Health Score (WPHS). These funds supported the development of RCOE’s first licensed therapist position in 2023 located in San Jacinto.

Student Behavioral Health Incentive Program (SBHIP) $2,836,566.00

In collaboration with the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS), Inland Empire Health Plan (IEHP), Molina Healthcare, Hemet Unified School District, Palm Springs Unified School District, Nuview Union School District, and the Leadership Military Academy, RCOE was awarded the SBHIP grant.

SBHIP was designed to improve coordination between Managed Health Care plan (MCP) and Local Education Agencies (LEA) to develop and increase access to preventative, early intervention, and behavioral health services for children in public schools (TK-12th grade). These funds supported hiring an additional three licensed therapists in Riverside, Perris, and Murrieta, a Coordinator who is also a licensed therapist, and a Program Assistant for our Community Schools.

Desert Healthcare District and Foundation (DHDF) $349,874.00

In collaboration with the Desert Healthcare District and Foundation will provide a therapist for students in Alternative Education and expand CAREspace services in the Coachella Valley to improve access, awareness, and availability of behavioral health education and prevention services to children 0 to 18 and their families.

Targeted services will include individual counseling, family counseling, parent workshops, classroom presentations and staff training. These funds supported hiring an additional licensed therapist who provides services in Palm Springs, Indio, and Blythe for our Community Schools.

Mental Health Services Oversight & Accountability Commission (MHSOAC) $726,000.00

In collaboration with the Mental Health Services Oversight & Accountability Commission (MHSOAC), on behalf of the California Department of Healthcare Services (DHCS), the California Institute for Behavioral Health Solutions and Heluna Health, RCOE was awarded the CYBHI Round 5 early intervention programs and practices funding.

Services will include increased access to behavioral health early intervention and prevention for our CBK Charter School. Targeted services will include individual and family counseling, parent workshops, classroom presentations, and staff training. These funds supported the development of RCOE’s first Associate Therapist position in 2024, hiring two Associate Therapists for our CBK Charter School. 

Certified Wellness Coach Employer Support Grant Program (CWCES) $913,770.00

In collaboration with The Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI), RCOE was awarded the Certified Wellness Coach Employer Support Grant Program (CWCES) to implement Certified Wellness Coaches (CWC) in our educational settings.

Certified Wellness Coaches provide non-clinical support including social-emotional learning, mentoring, care coordination, crisis referral, and psychoeducation. These funds will support the development of RCOE’s first Wellness Coach position in 2025, hiring five Wellness Coaches for our internal Alternative Education, Special Education, Career Technical Education, and Early Education Services programs.

Behavioral Health Student Impact

Through this grant funding, we have been able to create a behavioral health workforce to support the mental health needs of our students and families across our internal Alternative Education program. Within the first year, our licensed therapists provided 8,243 behavioral health services to our students in Alternative Education.
